Introduction
HIV/AIDS continues to be a critical issue for the LGBT community and for the Human Rights Campaign. HRC is a partner in the call for a national AIDS strategy to provide a comprehensive roadmap to end the epidemic. We are dedicated to the fight for ample funding of prevention, treatment and research efforts.
In a major victory on HIV/AIDS policy, the Obama administration lifted a 22-year-old ban on HIV-positive visitors and immigrants entering the country. HRC has been a lead organization lobbying Congress for the statutory repeal and working to ensure the Department of Health and Human Services’ regulations were changed. President Obama announced the final regulation reversing the ban on Oct. 30, 2009. The repeal took effect on Jan. 4, 2010.
Working independently and with our allies in the Federal AIDS Policy Partnership and other coalitions, HRC advocates for increased spending for community-based programs which provide vital health services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, and for the expansion of programs to prevent new infections.
